At KARIBA BUSH CLUB, THE CLUBHOUSE is our backpackers? lodge built in traditional style with 'pole & dagga', thatched roofs, surrounded by indigenous trees. All the huts, the bar, swimming pool, restaurant area, hot water ablutions etc. have been built with local materials by Kariba Bush Club staff, utilizing local stones, clay, thatching grass, hand made bricks, wooden poles and timber, all sourced locally and built to perfectly blend with the surroundings and vegetation. Most of the major work, such as cutting and combing of thatching grass, brick moulding and collection of stones, are organized with the local people from the surrounding villages on a contract basis. The wooden poles that we use are bought from the local community when areas are cleared for traditional farming. Poles are never cut just for the purpose of building.

We offer camping, private rooms and dorms and are now building more en-suite chalets.
All rooms are mosquito proofed and have fans.
The Clubhouse is set on vast green lawns (blue buffalo grass) with indigenous tall shady trees (Mopane, Wild Figs, Baobabs, Thorn Threes, Bushwillows etc.) where you can relax on one of our hammocks reading a good book, updating your diary, spotting the amazing bird life or observing the hippos in the water. The view is spectacular and there is always a refreshing cool breeze coming from the lake!

Guests can enjoy a fully stocked bar and swimming pool with stunning views, self-catering kitchen and BBQ facilities as well as delicious home made meals prepared by our cooks.

At The Clubhouse we also offer

Daily cleaning of your room

Free fruits from the threes (Bananas, Mangoes, Avocados, Papayas, Passion Fruit, Guavas etc.)?as long as you get there before the monkeys!

MEALS & BAR
You can choose a self-catering option (there is an outdoor self-catering kitchen with lake view) or enjoy our homemade meals on offer at The Clubhouse.
If you are self-catered, remember to do shopping before your arrival (shop in Livingstone if coming from West, in Lusaka or Mazabuka if coming from East) as the colourful local market here in Siansowa supplies only basic things such as a some variety of canned food, dried fish, limited vegetables of the season, flour, mealy meal, cooking oil etc. At The Clubhouse we sell frozen meat (whole chickens, pork chops, bream and crocodile fillets) as well as fresh eggs and bread.
Our enthusiastic cooks have been trained from day 1 and use locally produced ingredients as much as possible. You can try our famous crocodile stir-fry, our homemade pasta, fresh bream from the lake and many other dishes. All the food on our menu is homemade at The Clubhouse, from the ?Hungry breakfast? to light lunches and the two or three course dinners. Chickens and pigs are ?home-style? farmed within the farm?s property from where we also get wood-oven baked bread and fresh eggs every morning.
We are very flexible for all meal requests, but the more notice you give us the better the meal will be. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarians, definite dislikes, allergies etc.), we will always do our best to meet your needs.
The kitchen is open from 6 am to 9 pm and you can order your meals directly with the cooks or with the barmen at the bar.
Our bar at The Clubhouse overlooks a big bay facing West, North and East (it has a 200 degree view of the lake) and it has been designed so that, wherever you sit, there is nothing between you and the panorama. It is definitely the best spot for sundowners and the drinks are ICE COLD!!!
The bar is open from 8 am until the last guest leaves the bar.

ACTIVITIES!!!!!!!!!!
CROC FARM TOUR
A visit to Siansowa is incomplete without our two hour guided tour of one of the largest commercial Nile crocodile farms in the world. Seen it all before? Don?t find much interesting about crocodiles? WRONG!!!
This is a crocodile experience with a difference. Why? For the simple reason that it is not a tourist attraction, but a working commercial farm, the concept of which is to conserve the wild population. The first hour comprises of a look into the complex and forever changing world of crocodile husbandry. From the careful and painstaking process of incubating the eggs, the science of feed formulae, disease control and quality processing, right through to the legal and economic aspects of trade in what used to be one of the world?s most endangered species, and how that trade has been the key instrument in crocodile conservation policy.
The second half is where it really gets exciting as we move down to the breeding dams and literally step back 200 million years to the time when giant reptiles ruled the Earth! 7 hectares of earth dams, with more than 1,500 massive adult crocs, kept purely for breeding purposes. The dams are divided into six sections, so everyday is a feed day and the action can be spectacular. Don?t forget your binoculars either as the dams are a birders? paradise too!

BUSH WALK ON ISLANDS
A two-hour guided walk on Maaze or Mashape Islands, both teeming with a variety of game like Kudu, Sable, Eland, Impala, Reedbuck, Common Duiker, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Liechtenstein Hartebeest, as well as Elephant, Hippo, Zebra, Warthog, Bush Pig, Vervet Monkeys, Cachma Baboons, Slender and Yellow Mongoose, Civet, Nile Crocodile and excellent bird life.
Our guide Chris will drive you to the islands on a banana boat from our little harbour at The Clubhouse, enjoying lake Kariba?s stunning sunrise and he will tell you all about the game, the bush, the trees, the islands and the lake (including local beliefs).

GAME VIEWING & SUNSET CRUISE
Experience Kariba?s ?world famous? sunset from either the deck of Langaula, our big cruise boat (for large groups) with bar and BBQ on board (available upon request), or from Tweende, our comfortable smaller boat. The less strenuous way to see the game and bird life around the islands and in the water!

FISHING SAFARIS
Catch Bream for supper or fight the notorious Tiger. Guide/driver, tackle, bait and fuel included. Packed lunch included on full day trip. There are various fish species in Lake Kariba: apart from the famous fighting Tiger fish and the delicious Bream species (Kariba, Rainbow, Green and Pink), you can also try your skills and luck with Cornish Jack, Catfish, Chessa and Vundu. While casting and reeling enjoy (again!) the view of the game and bird life around you!

ROD & TACKLE HIRE

BIRD WATCHING & BUSH WALK IN THE MAINLAND NATURE RESERVE
Spot some elusive species on a guided bird watching walk around the mainland nature reserve. Siansowa is home to numerous bird species that are rare in the area - such as the Bat Hawk, the White-backed Night Heron, the Grey Parrot, the Eastern Nicator, the Palm-nut Vulture, the African Rail, the Cardinal Quelea, and the Western Banded Snake Eagle. The African Fish Eagle is a permanent and common resident here; we hope that its famous and suggestive calls will not ?disturb? you too much!!! During your ?bird watching walk? you can also enjoy the sight of the game on the mainland.

LAUNCHING of private speed boats US$10 including guide for orientation on the lake for your first cruise.

VISIT SINASOWA RURAL HEALTH CENTRE
In the farmland there is a clinic, the clinic officer will be happy to show you around, no payment is requested but a donation to the clinic box at the bar will be very much appreciated by the local community. In order not to inconvenience the clinic please make prior arrangements at the office.

Spend a bit of time in the LOCAL MARKET to see how things work in the real rural Africa. Ask any of us for directions.

?If it is your birthday you HAVE TO bake a cake: ask at the office for ingredients!!!

Directions

From Batoka (in the Livingstone-Lusaka road, 280 km from Lusaka and 220 km from Livingstone) you travel down the escarpment towards Maamba. After 50ks you will reach a town called Sinazeze, which you will recognise by the Council barrier as you enter. 1 km beyond the town is the main turnoff to Sinazongwe, with a lot of signposts indicating to turn left. DO NOT turn left here, as you need to be going to the village of Siansowa (direction Maamba). We have a blue and green sign here (Clubhouse and Guest House), the only sign indicating to go straight. You need to stay on the tar road for another 30ks. Our turnoff is indicated by another sign, and the road immediately rises over a small hill. From here you will travel on a good gravel road for 30kms until you reach the game fence and crocodile farm security gate. They will allow you in and direct you to the Guesthouse/Clubhouse. We have several sign on the dirt road too, but as long as you stay on the maintained and well-used road you are going the right way. Total distance from Lusaka is 390 km, from Livingstone is 330 km.
As for road conditions, the tar road from Batoka to our turnoff (just before the mining town of Maamba) is in reasonable condition in terms of potholes but there are some patches of these. It is important to take care on this road as there are several places where the road has been washed out from the side and are not easily visible. Also the road twists a lot with blind bends and a good deal of heavy trucks carrying coal from Maamba. The dirt road to Siansowa is well maintained throughout the year, you?ll need a high clearance vehicle in the wet season.
